Tarpon Obsession

SCROLL DOWN

Tarpon Obsession

There is no cure... another jumped tarpon just deepens the addiction.

Tarpon... it's an obsession.  There's no other fish on the planet that can make your heart race like a tarpon can.  Sometimes the thrill of the hunt can be just as exciting as having a 100+ pound fish jumping on the end of your line... and that's what makes people obsessed with tarpon.  Tarpon fishing isn't a hobby, it's a passion.

Years ago I was bitten by the tarpon bug and not a day goes by that I don't dream of being on the water chasing the silver king.  I have spent countless hours on the water scouting for tarpon, learning their habits so that I can know when and where the best chances of finding them will be.  I have found several places in SW Florida that hold tarpon year-round (as long as the water temperature doesn't get abnormally cold).  Spring and early summer are great times to fish for tarpon but don't count out fall and winter.  Last year two of my bigger tarpon were caught on New Year's Eve and on January 2nd.

When the tarpon are stubborn we fish for redfish, trout, black drum, shark, cobia, and monster snook (my second favorite fish... a distant second)

Kids First Fishing

My number one reason for becoming a USCG licensed charter captain is to introduce more kids to fishing.  I do this by offering FREE charters to kids through local and national charities, local children's hospitals, churches and other charitable organizations.

I do not accept donations for this service and use 100% of my own income to fund these charters for underprivileged boys and girls.

During my high school and college years I worked as a camp counselor and after-school programs coach for over 10 years.  After receiving a bachelor's degree in business management from The University of Michigan (Flint Campus... GO BLUE) I have gone on to work in "the real world" but something was always missing.  There's nothing as rewarding to me as seeing a smile on a child's face and knowing that I helped it get there.  Be confident that your son or daughter will be in good company while on a charter with me.  I enjoy teaching children about the wildlife we will encounter during our trips, and I've been known to throw in a 'life lesson' from time to time.  A parent or guardian is required for anyone 17 years or younger, so I encourage you to come with and enjoy the experience.
